After the Civil War, freed slaves seemed to obtain appraise rights with the passing of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. However, after Reconstruction ended in 1876, these rights were not truly implemented until later in the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1896 case of Plessy v. Ferguson, the Supreme approach ruled that racial segregation was legal as long as the egress off facilities are equate.
